SALINAS, Calif. — October 27, 2026. Monterey County has proposed a 10-year office-space lease for the Department of Social Services at 730 LaGuardia Street, Salinas, in the Salinas Airport Business Center area.
Board item A 26-442 in the county’s October 20 agenda seeks authorization to rent approximately 42,094 square feet of general office space from Salinas Airport Business Center, a general partnership. The agenda lists monthly lease payments of $71,560 according to the contract terms.
Understanding the cost
At that listed monthly figure, 12 payments would amount to $858,720 before any adjustments, separately billed expenses or other contract conditions. That arithmetic is not a verified 10-year total; longer contracts may have scheduled adjustments, commencement conditions or additional provisions.
The 10-year term would start on the defined “Lease Commencement Date” in the proposed agreement, not automatically on the October 20 agenda date. The motion also contemplated the possibility of future contract amendments subject to county approvals.
Will public services move to LaGuardia Street?
The proposal identifies the space as intended for the Department of Social Services, but it does not independently establish a public opening date, which caseworkers would be stationed there, whether existing offices will close, or which benefits could be handled on-site.
Residents applying for CalFresh, Medi-Cal or other assistance should follow the department’s official service locations and appointment instructions. California58 has a separate guide to MC-CHOICE outreach for families seeking enrollment help.
At publication, the board meeting’s overall minutes were still draft, so this is a proposed lease, not a confirmed relocation announcement.
